Open the Brick CalculatorThe standard figure
For a standard UK metric brick (215 × 102.5 × 65mm) laid in a single skin with a 10mm mortar joint, you need about 60 bricks per square metre. For a double-skin (one-brick-thick) wall, double it to roughly 120 per m².
- Single skin (half-brick): ~60 bricks per m²
- Double skin (one brick): ~120 bricks per m²
- Always add 5% for cuts and breakages
Don't forget mortar and wastage
A typical wall uses around 0.02–0.03 m³ of mortar per m² of single-skin brickwork. Always order a little extra brick to cover cuts, returns and the odd damaged unit. The Brick Calculator below handles the count and wastage for you.
